The Jomon period dates back to about 14,000 BC. When digging into the soil, artifacts from thousands of years ago suddenly emerge in front of you. In that moment, the relationship with the object loses its temporal axis and becomes solely a matter of spatial information.
Handling objects of similar size to contemporary, such as a teacup or earrings from the ground, reveals minimal changes in human corporeality; it becomes evident that the body's essence has remained largely unchanged over time.
Elements that change and those that remain constant, all contribute to shaping the 'now,' and in that moment, it becomes the past.
Over a period of two years working at an archaeological excavation site, the artist translated her experiential connection with Jomon into drawings and pottery pieces.
